Privacy Policy

The short version

Usage Buddy is designed so your coding-account credentials and usage data remain on your Windows PC. We do not receive that data on our servers. We do receive limited information needed to sell licenses, validate them, recover them, answer support requests, secure the website, and understand how the website is used. We do not sell personal information.

Information stored by the desktop app

The app stores account labels, provider names, plan details, usage values, reset times, status information, errors, and your preferences in a local SQLite database on your device. Provider credentials remain in separate profiles managed by the relevant provider tools; Usage Buddy does not place those credentials in its database or upload them to our servers.

Your license key, activation identifier, installation identifier, and last validation time are stored locally using Windows-provided encryption. When you activate or validate a license, the app sends the license key, license-instance identifier, and a device label containing your computer name and a short installation identifier to Dodo Payments. The app also contacts GitHub to check for and download updates when automatic updates are enabled.

Website, purchases, and support

Dodo Payments acts as the merchant of record. It collects payment details, billing information, and any information required for receipts, taxes, fraud prevention, refunds, and license delivery. We do not receive or store complete payment-card details. We may receive and store your email address, customer and purchase identifiers, product and license identifiers, purchase status, and an encrypted copy of the license key so we can fulfil and recover purchases.

If you use the contact form, we receive the email address and message you submit. The message is delivered through our contact automation provider. License-recovery requests use your email address to find a matching purchase; a one-way hash may also be retained to prevent abuse.

Website analytics and technical data

The website uses Umami Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. These services and our hosting providers may process technical and usage information such as pages visited, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser and device details, referral source, interactions, request times, IP addresses, cookies, or similar identifiers. We use this information to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website. Your browser controls can restrict cookies and tracking, although some features may work differently.

How information is used and shared

We use information only to provide the app and website, process and recover purchases, validate licenses, deliver updates, respond to requests, prevent fraud or abuse, analyse website performance, enforce our Terms, and meet legal obligations.

We share information only with service providers that perform those functions for us, including Dodo Payments, hosting and database providers, email and contact-automation providers, analytics providers, and GitHub for software delivery. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. These providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies and may process data in other countries.

Retention and security

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, including transaction records, license delivery, fraud prevention, dispute handling, security, and legal obligations. Retention periods vary by record and provider. You can remove locally stored app data by deleting accounts in the app or uninstalling the app and removing its application-data folder.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encryption for stored license keys and signed verification of payment webhooks. No software, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, error-free, or immune from unauthorized access. You are responsible for keeping Windows, your provider tools, and your device secure.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection concerning personal information we control. These rights may be limited where records must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or transaction purposes. Submit a request through the contact page using the email address associated with your purchase so we can verify it.

Children

Usage Buddy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to us.
